Mumbai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a charge sheet in the murder case of Amravati-based chemist Umesh Kolhe in Maharashtra. Umesh Kolhe was publicly killed by fundamentalists in a dispute related to Islam's Prophet Mohammad. Eleven accused have been arrested in the case. A charge sheet has been filed against them in the NIA court of Mumbai.

The accused have been identified as Mubashir Ahmed, Shahrukh Khan, Abdul Tauseef Sheikh, Mohammad Shoaib, Atib Rashid, Yusuf Khan, Irfan Khan, Abdul Arbaaz, Musfiq Ahmed, Sheikh Shakeel, and Shahim Ahmed. A case was registered on June 22, 2022, at the City Kotwali police station in the Amravati district of Maharashtra in connection with the murder of Umesh Kolhe. When the investigation of the case was handed over to the NIA, the case was again registered by the NIA on July 2, 2022.

Umesh Kolhe was killed by Muslim fundamentalists by slitting his throat in Amravati on June 22, 2022. Umesh used to run a medical shop under the name of 'Amit Medical'. On the night of the incident, he along with his son Sanket and daughter-in-law Vaishnavi was going home on separate bikes when fundamentalists attacked Kolhe with a knife from behind. Umesh Kolhe was killed by Islamic fundamentalists for supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. It is said that Umesh Kolhe had shared a post in support of Nupur Sharma on his WhatsApp, and just because of this post, the fundamentalists became so angry that they killed Umesh publicly.

The main conspirator in Umesh's murder case is a doctor named Yusuf, who has known Umesh and his family for decades. Umesh and Yusuf also had a friendship. According to reports, Umesh knew him since 2006-07. Yusuf had sent Umesh's post to a suspected WhatsApp group and instigated the fundamentalists to kill him. After this, the murder was planned. Not only this, but after the murder, Yusuf also attended Umesh's funeral so that no one suspects him.
