United Nations: The United Nations Security Council has approved a resolution extending the UN peacekeeping deployment in the Central African Republic for another year, until November 15, 2022. According to sources, Resolution 2605 also decides that the UN peacekeeping force, known in French as MINUSCA (United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission), will maintain its present personnel level of 14,400 troops and 3,020 police officers. Thirteen of the Security Council's fifteen members voted in favour of the resolution.

China and Russia abstained because the opinions of the government of the Central African Republic were not adequately reflected in the text. The resolution empowers MINUSCA to use any and all means necessary to carry out its mandate within its capabilities and deployment regions.

The mandate of MINUSCA, according to Resolution 2605, is to advance a multi-year strategic vision to create the political, security, and institutional conditions conducive to national reconciliation and long-term peace through the implementation of the 2019 Political Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation and the elimination of the threat posed by armed groups through a comprehensive approach and proactive and robust posture, without prejudice to the basic principles of peasant sovereignty.
