Mumbai: Union minister Narayan Rane was on Saturday acquitted by an Alipur court in a case related to his "provocative statements" against former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray. The court has also cancelled his surety bonds filed in this case. Rane had told Uddhav at a function that if I had, I would have slapped him hard. Shiv Sena leaders had lodged three FIRs against him in this matter.

The matter is related to a function held on April 20, 2021, in the presence of Union Minister Narayan Rane. Speaking at the event, Rane accused Uddhav Thackeray of ignorance about the year of India's independence and said, "I would have given a big slap." Shiv Sena leaders expressed a lot of anger over this statement by Rane. Strongly condemned Rane's remarks. Party leader Vinayak Raut even demanded his removal from the Union Cabinet.

Subsequently, based on complaints filed by Shiv Sena leaders, FIRs were registered against Rane at several places, including Nashik and Pune. An FIR was registered against Rane in 2021 at Chaturshringi police station under sections 153 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
