New Delhi: Indian peacekeepers in South Sudan have been awarded the prestigious United Nations Medal for their contribution. According to the information received, around 850 Indian peacekeepers serving in South Sudan were awarded the prestigious United Nations Medal for their contribution towards supporting peace efforts and local communities in the conflict-affected country.

It is noteworthy that India is the largest sending country in the peacekeeping operations of the United Nations. Currently, 2342 Indian soldiers and 25 policemen are posted in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). UNMISS has reported that the contribution of Indian peacekeepers to peace in conflict-affected South Sudan has been marked. 850 Indian soldiers working in the mission have been awarded the United Nations medal for their dedication and sacrifice.

The commander of the Indian battalion, Colonel Amit Gupta has told that, we want to leave good memories for the people of South Sudan and live in their memories. They have said that, we also want to leave a better place for them where they can earn income for themselves and build their nation.
