New Delhi: Scientists say that the technology using organoids or micro-human organs made in the lab to study viral diseases can speed up research on the coronavirus and pave the way for its treatment.

Joseph Penninger, director at the Life Science Institute at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada, said organoids are organs in the lab that closely resemble human tissue that can be important in disease studies. Penninger said scientists from human organ-like structures are beginning more experiments to find out which vaccine or drug would be effective against the coronavirus.

Giving information, he said that this research using organoids can open new doors to study the symptoms of coronavirus. These microscopic organs have already helped scientists to understand how the zika virus can reduce head size in newborns and affect their intellectual ability. Scientists believe that this technique can also prove effective in the treatment of corona.
