Los Angeles: A bomb threat at the University of Southern California (USC) forced the evacuation of various buildings on campus, authorities said.
The University announced in a tweet on Thursday evening: "A bomb threat has forced the evacuation of Grace Ford Salvatori Hall, Sample Hall, and Wallis Annenberg Hall. A search is underway by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Keep your distance from the area." The school announced about a half-hour later that law enforcement authorities had decided that the evacuated buildings were safe and that the connected buildings were reopened.
"The evacuated buildings have been determined to be safe by the LAPD and DPS. The reopened Grace Ford Salvatori Hall, Sample Hall, and Wallis Annenberg Hall. Normal operations have resumed." According to sources, USC has around 49,500 students enrolled in the 2021-22 academic year.
Multiple Ivy League institutions in the East Coast, including Yale, Columbia, Cornell, and Brown, received bomb threats earlier this month and were obliged to issue evacuation notices to students. None of the threats were deemed credible by US law enforcement officials.
