HYDERABAD: Although Telangana is currently experiencing another unseasonably wet weather that is further harming agricultural crops, the state government has reassured farmers that it will support them.

KT Rama Rao (KTR) , state minister and working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), reassured farmers today, April 26, not to fret about the losses and that the government will provide them with all necessary support. The minster  expressed worry over the losses suffered by farmers as a result of excessive rain and hailstorms in several districts.

He requested that party MLAs and other public representatibes visit their respective constituencies on the ground and assess the situation while working with local authorities. He assured farmers that they shouldn't be concerned since the state government will help them.

He recalled that the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, had visited the afflicted districts personally, assessed the situation, and provided farmers with assurances. Since further rain is predicted over the next few days, KTR asked the officials to be accessible on the ground. Unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms during the past three to four days have caused damage to agricultural crops in various districts.

On Sunday, KCR,  gave Santhi Kumari, the Chief Secretary, the task of assessing crop damage.  He asked the Chief Secretary to speak to District Collectors and get detailed reports on crop damages. Minister for Civil Supplies Gangula Kamalar has assured farmers that the KCR government will offer 100%  compensation.
Last month, 2.28 lakh acres of crops across the state were destroyed by unseasonal rain and hailstorms.

After visiting a few of the afflicted districts, KCR declared an award of Rs 10,000 per acre. However, the agriculture department decided to only provide compensation for 1.51 lakh acres following a survey. Officials said the fund will be deposited in the bank accounts of 1,30,988 farmers.
