LUCKNOW: A 50-year-old woman, Pushpa Devi, was severely injured in a wolf attack in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district on Wednesday night. The incident occurred in Raipur Korean Tepra village, under Khairighat police station, around 10 pm while she was asleep. The wolf attacked her, grabbing her by the throat.

Pushpa Devi was initially rushed to a local hospital, but due to the seriousness of her injuries, she was later referred to Bahraich District Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.

Her son-in-law shared details of the attack, explaining, "The incident took place at 10 pm when she was sleeping. One of the children might have opened the door, and the wolf, which was hiding nearby, attacked her. The family heard her cries and rushed to her aid. Neighbors gathered, and the wolf eventually ran away."

The attack has increased fear among residents in the area, as it follows a similar incident earlier that day. An 11-year-old girl was also attacked by a wolf and is now being treated at a local hospital in Mahasi.

Earlier in the week, the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department captured a fifth 'killer' wolf, but one remains at large. These wolves have been responsible for multiple attacks on villagers in Bahraich.

The forest department has been working to capture the wolves through "Operation Bhediya," launched to address a series of attacks in 25-30 villages under Mahsi tehsil. The department has installed snap cameras in key areas to monitor wolf activity, especially around potential habitats like caves in Sikandarpur village, where locals believe the wolves reside.

So far, nine people have lost their lives, and over 40 have been injured in wolf attacks across various villages in Bahraich.
