LUCKNOW: Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has ordered that teams should be set up in each of the state's 75 districts to assess the effects of a lack of monsoon rain on irrigation and crop production. District Magistrates have been instructed to give the Chief Minister their reports within a week.

Up until September 7, Uttar Pradesh will experience a nearly 46 percent  reduction in monsoon rainfall.

Yogi said that the monsoon deficiency has severely impacted the sowing of the kharif crop. He has ordered that one team be formed for each district in order to estimate the loss and comprehend the effect of the deficit on agriculture.
This shall have as members, the chief revenue officer, district magistrate and officers from the departments of agriculture, horticulture and sugarcane. By September 14, they must conduct surveys in the districts they have been given and deliver a report to Yogi's office.

Then, by September 15–16, the government will deliver a combined report to the Center.
In the meantime, all district magistrates have received a letter from principal secretary Sudhir Garg informing them that a previous survey ordered by the Relief Commissioner in August of this year has produced conflicting results, making it difficult for the government to identify which districts have been most negatively impacted.

According to information released by the India Meteorological Department, rainfall in 62 out of 75 districts was below average. 37 of these districts receive less rain than 50  percent of the time on average.

The worst affected districts include Ghaziabad, which has an 81 percent deficiency, Farrukhabad, 79 percent, Gautam Buddha Nagar, 74 percent, Rampur, 71 percent each, Amroha, and Kanpur Dehat, and Kushinagar, 70 percent.

A government spokesperson said the state has already taken steps to ensure that farmers did not face any further problems. Directives had been given to stall recovery of any pending land or electricity dues from farmers till further notice. Tube well connections also cannot be cut as part of the due recovery system.
