Lucknow: While the BJP has won 33 of the 36 seats in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections (MLC elections), the Samajwadi Party (SP) has suffered a humiliating defeat. The SP, which won over 100 assembly seats in the state a month ago, has not won a single seat in this election. After hours of silence on the election results, when the SP gave its first reaction, Bagri said something on his defeat, questioning the caste of the winners.

Accusing the BJP of bypassing the SC, ST and OBC community, the SP said that out of the 36 winning candidates, 18 are Swati (Thakurs) of CM Yogi Adityanath. The SP tweeted, "This is the truth of the BJP, which calls others casteist! Out of the 36 seats in the MLC elections, a total of 18 were won by the Chief Minister's indigenously elected MLCs. What is this "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" bypassing SC, ST, OBC? Socialists will continue to fight for strengthening social justice through democracy. '

However, after this tweet of the SP, people also reminded the party that most of the Yadav candidates have been fielded from its side. Akhilesh Yadav, who gave tickets to a large number of OBC candidates other than the Yadav-Muslim equation in the assembly elections, had once again tried his old bet in the MLC elections. The SP had fielded Yadav candidates on 21 out of 35. However, to avoid questions, the party did not make public the surnames of the candidates.   Apart from the 21 Yadavs, the SP had fielded four Muslims, four Brahmins.   But the SP could not win a single seat and now it is blaming the Thakurs for the defeat.
