UP Police launches unique initiative called 'Savera' for Sr citizens

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Police has introduced a novel programme for older persons named "Savera," which will enable anyone over 60 to call emergency number "112" for help.

The programme is primarily designed for elderly people who live alone.

The government spokesman claims that almost 7. 5 lakh senior folks in the state have signed up for the programme.
Additional Director General,  Ashok Kumar Singh, UP 112, said, "A police response vehicle will quickly  reach for help, while beat constables from the nearest police station officers will keep a record of elders in the area" The UP government is constantly working to ensure the security and safety of the elderly, he said.

"Up to October 15, UP 112 is also doing a special campaign to increase senior citizen enrollment. There are ongoing efforts to register as many elderly persons as possible in the state. The state's senior residents can register themselves by going to their local police station or by dialling 112," he added.

Another senior officer announced that police would show up to talk and listen to the concerns voiced by the registered elders.

Uttar Pradesh 112 also offers an exclusive escort service for women travelling alone during odd hours.
In the state, the service is accessible from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
