Washington: The US population grew at the fastest rate ever in 2022, down from the slowest rate ever, the US Census Bureau reported on Thursday, as growth rebounds after a recession brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. started.

The country's population is set to rise 0.4 percent to 333.3 million this year, after holding steady at about 0.1 percent in 2021 when the coronavirus exacerbated a trend of slower growth in previous years.

The US population is expected to increase by less than one million people in 2021 for the first time since 1937, the lowest numerical increase since at least 1900, when the Census Bureau began compiling annual population estimates.

Net migration out of the country is expected to increase by 1.01 million people between 2021 and 2022, according to a statement released by the Census Bureau on Thursday. This compared with a net migration of over 376,000 a year earlier. that pre-pandemic levels may return.

Florida had the fastest rate of population growth in 2022, with a 1.9 percent increase to 22.2 million people, according to Census Bureau data.

Although Florida has often been one of the states with the highest population growth, Christy Wilder, a demographer in the Census Bureau's Population Division, said it was the first time since 1957 that Florida had the highest percentage population growth.
18 states see population declines in 2022, as opposed to 15 in 2021 and the District of Columbia.
