New Delhi: Veteran women's tennis player Serena Williams has sealed her place in the semi-finals by performing brilliantly at the US Open. Former world number one Serena won her 100th Grand Slam by losing in straight sets to China's youngster Quang Wang. In the 44-minute match, Serena beat the Chinese 6–1, 6–0.
Serena scored 25 winners in the match, while Wang could not even answer her winner. Wang failed to put a single winner. By combining both sets, the Chinese player won just one game in the first set. Wang upset the world number two player Ashley Barty to get a quarter-final ticket. Serena will face Elena Svitolina of Ukraine in the semi-finals.
In the fourth round match, Serena became a champion. She slipped during the match, causing her right leg to bend. Despite this, she was successful in winning the pre-quarterfinals and now in the quarter-finals. The former world number one had defeated Petra Martic. The 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena said after the victory that she never thought she would win 100 matches in the Grand Slam. She said that it is very special and she did not want to lose it.
