WASHINGTON: The Biden Administration has actively encouraged India to collaborate with Canada in its inquiry into the demise of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent Khalistani separatist, as revealed by a spokesperson from the US State Department. This matter was brought to the forefront during a meeting between Secretary of State Tony Blinken and India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, which took place in Washington last week.

The State Department's spokesperson, Mathew Miller, emphasized the ongoing close coordination between the United States and Canada regarding this issue. He reiterated, "As Secretary Blinken made abundantly clear during their meeting, and as I will emphasize now, we are consistently working closely with our Canadian counterparts on this matter."

Miller went on to explain that the US government has engaged with the Indian authorities on multiple occasions, urging them to cooperate fully with Canada's investigation into the matter. He pointed out that Secretary Blinken had taken the opportunity to stress this during his meeting with the Indian Foreign Minister.

When asked whether India had agreed to collaborate with Canada in the investigation, Miller refrained from making any definitive statements, asserting that it was New Delhi's prerogative to respond to that question. He stated, "I will leave it to the Indian government to articulate their stance, while I represent the United States government's position, which strongly advocates for such cooperation."

In summary, the Biden Administration has been actively involved in encouraging India to cooperate with Canada in its ongoing investigation into the death of the Khalistani separatist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. While the exact nature of India's response remains uncertain, the United States continues to underscore the importance of cooperation in this matter.
