The court has made these comments regarding the monitoring of use of pesticides in fruits and vegetables. The court started this public interest litigation by taking its cognizance. When a bench of justices GS Sistani and AJ Bhimbani asked the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, whether calcium carbide is still being used to cook mangoes? Then the court has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the authority to be present at a further date. The Ministry of Agriculture was asked whether there is a way out? So that it can be found out whether the fruits at home have calcium carbide or not.

To this, the Ministry replied that there is no such kit, in which chemicals can be detected in fruits. It is possible only in the laboratory. The court is also hearing the petitions of two other people in the PIL launched in which it has been directed to control the use of pesticides and chemicals on agricultural products for inspection on food items. Taking cognizance of this matter, the court said that rules will be made in our constitution for this so that cases like this can be stopped between people and will also consider taking many steps regarding this.
