WASHINGTON– Security talks between the United State and Russia in Geneva slated for Monday have drawn attention from the international community. According to sources, the discussions are anticipated to centre on NATO and the escalating tensions in Ukraine, as well as arms control, cybersecurity, and climate change.

Experts are wary about the dialogue's prospects, but calling it a hopeful signal for improving strained US-Russia relations. In a virtual interview with Xinhua, Thomas Greminger, director of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy and former secretary general of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe from 2017 to 2020, said, "We have to control expectations."

"It's fantastic that we'll have another round of this Strategic Stability Dialogue here in Geneva on Monday." "I think it's excellent that they meet and chat," he said, "but there are no easy remedies for the challenges on the table." "I would expect the Monday meeting to be an occasion to set out common concerns and expectations," Greminger added. "I'm not very optimistic," Keith Krause, a professor at Geneva's Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, he said. I believe this is the start of a longer-term debate.
