Varanasi: Kashi is incomplete without Baba Vishwanath. This is the reason that in the city of Mahadev itself from the beginning, any auspicious work including Holi also starts with 'Baba'. Holi starts with colorful Ekadashi when Baba plays Gulaal with Abir. It is necessary to state here that 'Baba'  in Benaras calls Kashi Vishwanath, Lord Bholenath. Holi begins in Banaras with the arrival of Kashi for the first time as the goddess Gauri, who resides as Annapurna in Kashi, the city of the Great Goddess.

From this day, playing with colors begins in Kashi, which lasts for six consecutive days. According to mythological belief, on the day of the colorful Ekadashi, Lord Shiva came to Kashi for the first time after marrying Goddess Parvati. In this joy, the devotees of Lord Shiva started to celebrate color and happiness. Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Falgun month is considered as colorful Ekadashi. This year, Ekadashi was on Wednesday (March 24, 2021) and Holi of the Mahashmashaan is on Thursday (March 25, 2021).

Holi is played on the second day of Ekadashi in Varanasi, the city of Baba Vishwanath. It is the most unique Holi in the world. It is believed that when Lord Shiva returns to Kashi on the day of Ekadashi with Mata Parvati and son Ganesha, having a gown, people of all the three worlds welcome them, but it has Shiva's ghost-vampire devotees and visible invisible spirits present. Therefore, on the second day of Ekadashi, Mahadev, the Lord of the Gods, plays Holi with his devotees at the Mahamashashan. This ash is not ordinary ash but is the ashes produced after burning a human body. Explain that Kashi is considered to be the city of salvation and here Baba Bholenath himself gives the Tarak mantra. Hence death is also a festival here and on Holi, they try to get the blessings of Shiva with happiness-prosperity-splendor by throwing the devouring of Chita on each other like Abir and Gulal.
