Lucknow: A major accident has taken place in the Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. Five persons, including four women, drowned when a canoe boat capsized in the Kuwano River in the district here. Three of them came out safely, while two women were swept away with the fast flow of the river. The police and administration team, which reached the spot after receiving information about the accident, are carrying out a search operation with the help of divers.

CO Rudhauli Ambika Ram, Naib Tehsildar Priyanka and SHO Umashankar Tripathi are present at the spot and are monitoring the rescue operation. The body of one of the drowned women has been recovered, while the other woman is said to be missing. According to the information received, 45-year-old Sanwari Devi, 50-year-old Kalavati, 40-year-old Sudama and 42-year-old Monika of Banpur village under Lalganj police station area were on their way to Banni village on Thursday to work as labourers on the same canoe boat.

The boat was being driven by a young man. It is being told that the boat overturned near Bunny village. In the accident, Sanwari Devi and Kalavati drowned in the water, while others swam out. The body of Sanwari Devi has been recovered. At the same time, divers are now looking for Kalavati.
