Lucknow: UP's Yogi Adityanath government has shut down Sotiganj market in Meerut district notorious for cutting stolen vehicles. Stolen cars were brought to this market from Delhi-NCR and many parts of the country and its parts were sold separately. Police have taken this action in the area after identifying two such illegal gangsters- Haji Iqbal and Haji Galla. The administration has taken action against these two waivers and seized properties worth crores of rupees.

According to the report, the illegal trade in scraping stolen cars started here in the 1990s. Earlier there were only junk shops, but over time godowns were built inside the houses and the business of stolen cars started. There are now more than 300 shops in this market, where more than 1,000 people work. Traders say the SHO there have ordered closure of all shops till further orders.

In this case, SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary of Meerut district said, "We have identified 100 shops in the market which are indulging in illegal trade. Unless they collect stock information, we will not allow any goods to reach them. According to media reports, the administration has taken several important steps to ensure that peace in the region is not disturbed. More than 200 soldiers carried out a flag march in the area on Sunday afternoon and clearly warned those trying to disturb peace.

The main junks of Sotiganj include Haji Galla, Haji Iqbal, Haji Aftab, Mushtaq, Mannu alias Meinuddin, Haji Mohsin, Salman alias Sher, Rahul Kala, Salahuddin. More than 2,500 cases have been registered against these scrapers. Out of this, 37 are such, against whom cases are registered under the Gangster Act.
