Dehradun: In Uttarakhand, the fate of those who tortured an elderly citizen is coming. The state government on Saturday made a big announcement that if a person harasses or does not take care of elderly citizens, legal action will be taken against such people. The property transferred by the elderly will also be confiscated. The government has taken this decision in view of the increasing crimes against elders in the state.

On Saturday, Director General of Crime and Law and Order, Ashok Kumar has issued an order to all the district in-charges for the protection of senior citizens and their rights. In the order, he said that it is often seen that after getting property in old age, the relatives concerned exploit the elders and do not take care of them. Due to which the elderly take steps like suicide or leave home.

According to the order issued, if a family does not look after or exploit the elderly, then action will be taken against such people as per the "Maintenance of Senior Citizens Act, 2007" of the Central Government. Such persons can be sent to jail or property can also be confiscated.
