Dehradun: Heavy rains have already created havoc in Uttarakhand, while the weather may change once again today. According to the MET department, there will be light rain with thundershowers at isolated places over Dehradun as well as Uttarkashi, Haridwar, Nainital and Champawat in the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall is not expected at present.

According to the MET department, Dehradun will also be partly cloudy and light rain is likely to occur at some places on Saturday evening or at night with thundershowers. In the past, due to the extreme activity of western disturbances and the pressure of south-eastern winds, the weather changed from the ground to the mountain. The entire state received record-breaking heavy rain. More than 50 people died and crores of properties were lost, especially in the Kumaon region due to heavy rains.

However, meteorologists say that the impact of western disturbances and south-easterly winds has completely disappeared. There is no estimate of heavy rainfall now. The movement on Yamunotri highway as well as Yamunotri footpath is going on smoothly. Jankichatti police post-in-charge Gambhir Tomar, the last major stop of Yamunotri Dham, said that since morning, 400 travellers reached Yamunotri Dham and visited Mother Yamuna. The Malari Highway could not be opened for the sixth day today for the movement of trains.
