Dehradun: After two days of fine weather in Uttarakhand, the weather patterns may deteriorate from today. According to the bulletin issued by the weather center, on Thursday and Friday, rain and hail have been forecast in most areas of the state. On the other hand, hail can fall in large numbers in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, and Nainital districts. Heavy rain may also occur in some areas of Tehri, Pauri, Almora, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar. Meteorological Center Director Bikram Singh said that snow could also fall at high places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts. Snowfall is also expected to fall in areas above 3000 meters of the state. Whereas on January 18, 2020, Cold Day is expected in some areas of Uttarakhand.

Gangotri highway blocked in two places due to falling snowfall: According to the Meteorological Department, since the winter, heavy snowfall in the Gangotri valley has been increasing the risk of snowfall in the region since December. On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, along with Changthang, the Gangotri highway was blocked due to the breaking of a huge iceberg near Jhala. While the BRO has restored the highway at Jhala, work is still underway in the Changthang glacier section 3 km ahead of Dharali.
It has also been noticed that Pachhiyari in Gangotri valley, Dakrolya near Sukri camp, Sukki, Sonagad, Dabrani, Changthang and Bhaironjap in Gangotri Dham as well as more than 30 glacier points between Dabrani to Bhojwasa. In 2002, a 40 feet thick iceberg near Gangotri Ganga Bagh blocked the flow of Ganga Bhagirathi for about 84 hours.
