Dehradun: In the wake of the devastating tunnel collapse in Uttarkashi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the site to assess and oversee the ongoing rescue and relief operations. The collapse trapped 40 workers, prompting urgent and extensive efforts to save lives. The officials, accompanied by Uttarakhand Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, are actively engaged in coordinating expert teams and exploring various strategies to expedite the rescue mission.

CM Dhami expressed the state government's unwavering commitment to providing all necessary assistance to the agencies involved in the rescue operation. Saving lives remains the top priority, and the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of the trapped workers. The incident has prompted a multi-faceted approach, involving the deployment of expert teams and exploring different possibilities to reach the workers.

In a collaborative effort, Deputy Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Mangesh Ghildiyal, and a former advisor to the PMO visited the site to evaluate the situation on Saturday. The gravity of the situation has prompted the inclusion of specialized expertise, such as a tree-cutting expert, Ashiq Hussain, and micro-tunneling expert Chris Cooper. These professionals are contributing their skills to enhance the rescue strategies and improve the chances of a successful operation.

The tragic incident occurred on November 12 when a tunnel under construction between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway collapsed. Efforts are underway to navigate the challenging conditions and extricate the trapped workers, with a focus on both horizontal and vertical approaches. The coordinated efforts of officials and experts reflect the urgency and determination to mitigate the impact of the disaster.
