New Delhi: India, in a reaffirmation of its commitment to providing support in times of crisis, has sent a second shipment of humanitarian aid to Palestine. The announcement was made by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the official social media platform X. The minister emphasized India's ongoing efforts, stating, "We continue to deliver humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine." This latest aid package, comprising 32 tonnes of relief supplies, was airlifted by the Indian Air Force using the C17 aircraft.

The aid is destined for El-Arish Airport in Egypt, a strategic point located around 45 kilometers from the Rafah crossing on Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip. The Rafah crossing serves as a crucial entry point for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, its full operational capacity has been hampered by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

This initiative follows India's earlier contribution on October 22, which included essential items such as medical supplies and disaster relief. The conflict in the region, particularly between Israel and Hamas, has escalated in recent weeks, prompting Israel to express its determination to dismantle Hamas in response to their actions on October 7. The fallout from this conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life, with Gaza authorities reporting a death toll of 12,300, including 5,000 children. In response, Israel is considering expanding its offensive against Hamas militants in southern Gaza, responding to air strikes that caused numerous casualties, including civilians seeking refuge in schools. The situation underscores India's commitment to providing crucial assistance to those affected by conflict and crisis.
