Uzbekistan's legal action in cough syrup death: Mfg at Noida-based pharma Co halted

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has informed that Uzbekistan has initiated legal action in the cough syrup death controversay. Uzbekistan has said that a cough syrup made by Noida-based Marion Biotech killed 18 children. 

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday informed that all the manufacturing activities of the Noida-based pharma company have been stopped in the light  of the reports of contamination in cough syrup Dok1 Max, while further investigation is ongoing," Mansukh Mandaviya said in a tweet.

The company is awaiting for the reports as it requires to be found out why cases came from a single hospital in Uzbekistan.

"The factory was examined; we're awaiting the reports. All drug production has been put on hold. Why incidents originated from a single hospital there needs to be ascertained. Our products also distributes to other countries, "Hasan Harris, the legal director at Marion Biotech Pharma, said.

The Uzbek Health Ministry stated on Wednesday that up to 18 youngsters have passed away from acute respiratory illness after ingesting cough medicine made by the Indian pharmaceutical company Doc-Max.

The Indian embassy in Uzbekistan sent condolences on Thursday to the families of children who had allegedly died after ingesting tainted Dok1 Max cough medication, which was produced by Noida-based Marion Biotech.
