Second wave of coronavirus in India records 34L active COVID cases

The world’s second-worst coronavirus-hit country, India in the last 24 hours recorded over 3.57 lakh new COVID-19 cases. The country’s total count marks 2 crore cases.

The Union Health Ministry showed more than 3 lakh new infections for a 13th straight day on Tuesday. There were 357229 new infections, 320289 recoveries and 3449 deaths in the last 24 hours. The country has also seen 16613292 recoveries besides 222408 COVID-related deaths. Witnessing an unprecedented spike in COVID-19 cases from the past couple of weeks and now has around 35 lakh active cases. Ten states including Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh accounted for most of the new coronavirus-related deaths. Whereas other ten states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar have accounted for most of the new COVID-19 infections.

In the ongoing vaccination drive across the country, as many as 215185 beneficiaries of the age group 18 to 44 years received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry.
