NEW DELHI: Indian Railways has reached a significant milestone with its Vande Bharat sleeper train prototype successfully achieving a top speed of 180 km/h during recent field trials. Designed to enhance long-distance overnight travel, this new sleeper variant promises to revolutionize rail journeys with its cutting-edge features, including internet connectivity, improved safety measures, and luxurious comfort.

Record-Breaking Trials Shared by Railway Minister

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video showcasing the impressive trial run of the Vande Bharat sleeper train. The footage captures the train achieving its peak speed of 180 km/h, demonstrating its superior performance and stability. The trials, conducted under the supervision of the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), are part of an intensive evaluation process to ensure the train’s readiness for regular operations.

A Transformative Leap in Long-Distance Travel

The Vande Bharat sleeper train represents a significant advancement in Indian Railways’ mission to provide world-class rail services. Following the success of the Vande Bharat Express chair car trains, the sleeper variant is poised to deliver a similar blend of speed, safety, and luxury for longer routes. Key features include automatic doors, ultra-comfortable berths, onboard Wi-Fi, and an aircraft-inspired design.

Highlights of the Trial Run

The trial, conducted in Rajasthan’s Kota Division, not only demonstrated the train’s high-speed capability but also highlighted its stability. A video shared online shows a glass of water remaining perfectly still on a table as the train raced at 180 km/h, emphasizing the smoothness of the ride.

Faster Journeys on the Horizon

With speeds surpassing the current maximum of 140 km/h achieved by long-distance trains like the Tejas Rajdhani Express, the Vande Bharat sleeper trains promise to significantly reduce travel times. Routes such as Delhi-Mumbai, Howrah-Chennai, and Kashmir-Kanyakumari are expected to benefit from these high-speed trains, bringing unparalleled convenience to passengers.

Upcoming Launch and Certification

The sleeper trains are undergoing rigorous testing, with the final evaluation to be conducted by the Railway Safety Commissioner. Once certified, these trains will be inducted into regular service, ushering in a new standard of luxury and efficiency in long-distance rail travel.

The Vande Bharat sleeper trains symbolize Indian Railways’ commitment to innovation and modernization, ensuring passengers experience faster, more comfortable, and technologically advanced journeys.
