One of the most veteran Producers of the Film Industry, Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala aka A G Nadiadwala passed away early morning on August 22. He was 91 years old and died due to cardiac arrest while he was being treated at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. His son, producer Firoz Nadiadwala, informed the media that A G Nadiadwala breathed his last at 1:40 am. A G Nadiadwala’s father A K Nadiadwala was also a producer while Firoz’s cousin Sajid Nadiadwala, a producer, runs a separate production house. In his career the actor has produced several big hits.
In an earlier interview speaking about the choice of film A G Nadiadwala said, “While keeping film aesthetics and requirements in mind, we make our budget according to the movie and not the other way round. We first understand the dynamics of the story and screenplay before we put down our expenses. Even if we end up spending a little more, we ensure that the money spent should be visible in terms of both, sensibility and quality.”
Speaking about his career, Gaffar Bhai’s first film as a producer was the Dharmendra and Rekha-starrer family drama Jhutha Sach, following which he was associated with the action drama Lahoo Ke Do Rang, and the Priyadarshan-directed comedy Hera Pheri.
Gaffar Bhai has also produced several other film, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Shankar Shambhu, Lahoo Ke Do Rang, Jhutha Sach, Watan Ke Rakhwale, Sone Pe Suhaaga and others. He was also known to be extremely passionate about his film and gave his heart and soul to every project he was associated with. Gaffarbhai was also a partner in Empire Audio Centre with Yusuf Lakdawala in the days when it was started.
