On Monday, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said that the country has achieved significant success on the economic and technical front, but the increasing cases of discrimination on the basis of caste, community, and gender are a cause for great concern. He said that the elimination of caste discrimination is the need of the hour.

While inaugurating the 87th Sivagiri Shraddha Sammelan at Shivagiri Math, 45 km from the state capital, the Vice President said that the caste system should end from the country and future India should be classless. He asked the heads of churches, mosques, and temples to work to end discrimination on the basis of caste.

Muralitharan, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Minister of State K.K. Surendran were present.
