India's top player Vidit Gujrathi remains at the fourth spot with 2 wins and 2 draws in the competition on the first day of the Charity Cup, the second tournament of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022 season. Vidit defeated World No. 7, Richard Rapport of Hungary, on the first day and defeated Lei Tingji of China while he played out a draw with David Navara of the Czech Republic and compatriot R Praggandha. In the points format of the competition, 3 points are being given on winning, then 1 point is being given on the draw, in such a way, Vidit finished third with 8 points after four rounds.  

The day also went well for India's young player Pignandha, he defeated world women's chess champion Xu Wenjun while Vidit along with  England's Jones Gavin drew while he lost to Vietnam's Liam Kwang Lay, India's Pentala was very bad for Harikrishna. The match between David Navara of the Czech Republic and Richard Rapport of Hungary ended in a draw. After the first day, Hans Niemann of the USA and Lim Quang Le of Vietnam are running in joint first place with 10 points while Ding Liren has come in third place with 9 points.

The players of this competition have already announced to dedicate all their prize money to the victims of the war in Ukraine. There will be a total of 15 rounds in the first 3 days on a round robin basis with a total of 16 players and then the top 8 players will participate in the play.
