On Thursday, Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to complete 5000 runs. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper achieved the feat during his side's encounter against Mumbai Indians at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Kohli was 46 runs away from achieving the feat and scored exactly the same amount of runs before getting dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah.

Here it is to be noted that Kohli notched up 46 runs off 32 deliveries with the help of six fours to become the fastest batsman to achieve the milestone. He completed the feat in 157 innings and joined Suresh Raina in becoming only the second batsman in the history of the tournament to score 5000 runs. Raina had achieved the feat in the opening encounter of the season against RCB at the Chepauk Stadium.

Recently, Raina is the all-time leading run-getter in the IPL with 5034 runs in 178 matches. He is followed by Kohli, who now has 5000 runs in 165 matches. The duo will remain in the battle to finish on top this season as they both have so far looked in terrific touch. Kohli, however, failed to help RCB clinch their first win in the tournament as the hosts succumbed to another close defeat.

However, here to be noted that Jasprit Bumrah changed the course of the match with two brilliant overs. He conceded 1 and 5 runs respectively in the 17th and 19th over respectively to leave Malinga with a good 13 runs to defend off the last over. The Lankan pacer was hit for a six by Shivam Dube off the very first ball but he went on to concede just 4 runs in the next 5 balls to save the game for Mumbai Indians.

However, Bumrah finished with figures of 3/20 in his four overs and was awarded the Man of the Match award for picking up the important wickets of Kohli, Shimron Hetmyer and Colin de Grandhomme. AB de Villiers looked in devastating touch and slammed a brilliant 70 off 40 balls but failed to get his side over the line as they suffered a second straight defeat this season.
