New Delhi: Team India captain Virat Kohli set a new record as he stepped on to the field against New Zealand in the final match of the ICC World Test Championship. Virat Kohli has now become the first player for India to captain most matches in Test cricket and has surpassed former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

MS Dhoni had earlier held the record for captaining the highest number of matches in Test cricket for the Indian cricket team. Dhoni captained Team India in 60 Tests, but Virat Kohli surpassed him and surpassed Dhoni in 61 Test matches. Virat Kohli to play his 61st Test captain against New Zealand.

Dhoni captained Team India in 60 Tests, winning 27 matches, losing 18 matches and drawing 15 matches.  Virat Kohli has won 36 of the last 60 Tests while Team India has lost 14 matches while drawing 10 matches. Ganguly captained Team India in 49 Tests and won 21 matches. Under Ganguly's captaincy, India were beaten in 13 matches while 15 were drawn.
