Vodafone Idea Aims for 5G Launch in 6-9 Months Post FPO

Vodafone Idea, gearing up for its Rs 18,000 crore further public offer (FPO), disclosed its plans to introduce 5G services within 6-9 months after the issue. CEO Akshaya Moondra stated that raising capital from the public aims to facilitate the rollout of 5G, once the funding is secured.

Moondra highlighted that the 5G deployment would initially target specific areas and contribute to 40% of the company's revenue over the next 24-30 months. Although a specific timeline for the rollout wasn't shared, approximately Rs 5,720 crore has been earmarked for this purpose, with testing and vendor discussions already underway.

Notably, Vodafone Idea's competitors, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, have been actively pursuing 5G development, leading to market share shifts. The lack of funds has hindered Vodafone Idea's progress in launching 5G services.

In addition to its 5G aspirations, Vodafone Idea is also focusing on enhancing its network infrastructure and improving customer experience. The company plans to utilize the funds raised from the FPO to strengthen its existing 4G network, expand coverage in underserved areas, and invest in digital technologies. This strategic approach aims to not only prepare for the 5G transition but also to remain competitive in the evolving telecommunications landscape.
