Guwahati: Announcing on Wednesday, the Assam State Election Commission said that the voting in 80 municipal bodies of the state will be held on March 6. State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar said in a press conference that for the first time in the history of Assam civic elections, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used. He said that the last date for nomination is February 15 and scrutiny of applications will be done on February 17.

He said, 'Voting for the election will be held on March 6 and the counting of votes will be done on March 9. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 20. There are 977 seats or wards in 80 municipal boards in the state. Kumar further said that, 'Voting will be done in 2,054 booths. We believe that 20 thousand to 25 thousand government employees will be deployed to complete the entire process of elections. Along with this, policemen will be deployed to maintain law and order during the elections.

Let us inform that the Congress has adopted the Assam model to register victory in the Manipur Assembly elections. The party has forged alliances with 5 parties, including the Left Front. The name of the alliance can be announced soon. This includes CPI, CPIM, RCP, Forward Bloc and Janata Dal Secular. Let us inform that in the assembly elections held in Assam last year, the Congress had forged an alliance with 10 parties. However, this experiment did not succeed and the alliance was successful in winning only 50 seats out of 126.
