Jakarta: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday warned that if the one-China principle governing how Beijing views self-ruled Taiwan were to be abandoned, there would be "dark clouds or even ferocious storms" and accused Washington of trying to weaken the policy. According to Wang, Taipei authorities are to blame for the current tensing of relations across the Taiwan Strait because they abandoned the 1992 consensus that reflects the one-China principle undermined cross-Strait relations and they are walking further down the path of relying on foreign countries to seek independence.

Furthermore he claimed that the US was currently playing the Taiwan card to sabotage and restrain China's development. At the secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), in Jakarta, Indonesia, Wang was discussing China's regional strategy.
Wang said I also want to draw attention to the fact that the US has recently emphasised the necessity of upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every country on numerous occasions. I have heard this a lot. We take this statement from the US seriously given America's track record. He emphasised that China's sovereignty and territorial integrity needed to be respected and upheld as well.
But we must stress one thing the US cannot practise double standards by continually breaking its promises or flip-flopping on its positions.

Washington has stated that it still adheres to its one-China policy and does not support Taiwan's independence, but the US is required by the US Taiwan Relations Act to give Taiwan the means to defend itself.
reaffirmed China's position.

on the Taiwan question asserting that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China. Taiwan is part of Chinese territory despite the fact that the two sides have been at odds politically for a very long time.

We sincerely hope that all nations will fully comprehend the grave threat posed by Taiwan's independence and will cooperate with China to uphold the one-China principle.

It is more likely to ensure peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as well as peace and prosperity in the region if we are unambiguous about upholding the one-China principle.

Wang's speech was given a few days after he had a five-hour meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken outside of the G20 foreign ministers' summit in Bali.

China and the Asean nations are moving quickly to complete consultations on the South China Sea Code of Conduct which will act as reliable international safeguards for better conflict management. and more active cooperation in the South China Sea's joint governance.
