NEW DELHI: Congress party on Monday demanded a white paper on the Indo-China border issue and accused the Centre of not telling the truth.

Speaking at a Press conference here, Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, said that the party's position was unequivocal on the matter: the status quo on the LAC prior to May 5, 2020 must be restored at all costs and there must be any compromise on this.

"We urge that Prime Minister Modi reassure the public about the Chinese danger and hold a news conference with the ministers of defence and foreign affairs to lay out the existing circumstances. This should be followed by the release of a White Paper. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence should receive a thorough briefing on the conflict and the Chinese situation "Gogoi said.

He argued that the government should name a full-time Chief of Defence Staff, a job that has been empty for seven months at a crucial time for our country's security, and that Parliament should convene a two-day debate. In a time of serious national security threat, Gogoi also demanded the withdrawal of the Agnipath scheme, which poses a risk of demoralising our military.

The Congress claimed that more than two years after the Chinese border issue in eastern Ladakh started, "Deny, Distract, Lie, Justify (DDLJ) sums up Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approach. Only four days after we lost 20 courageous Indian soldiers in Galwan, the Prime Minister of India handed China a pass, saying: "No one has entered our border here, nor has anyone entered on June 19, 2020 "said Gogoi.
