Warning: Be Cautious About Sharing Docs for Aadhaar Updates via Email or WhatsApp

Beware of potential scams involving emails or WhatsApp messages asking for your documents to update your Aadhaar card. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a cautionary advisory, alerting people to exercise vigilance against such messages that might be fraudulent attempts. The UIDAI stresses that they never solicit individuals to share personal identity or address verification documents through email in relation to Aadhaar card updates.

Instead, the UIDAI recommends that individuals update their Aadhaar card through the authorized channels. This can be done either online via the official #myAadhaarPortal or by physically visiting Aadhaar centers located nearby.

The UIDAI has been proactively encouraging residents to revalidate their demographic information by submitting Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (PoI/PoA) documents, especially if their Aadhaar cards were issued a decade ago and have not been updated since. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the quality of life, improving service delivery, and boosting the success rate of authentication processes.

Moreover, the UIDAI has extended the window for availing the free Aadhaar document update service until September 14, 2023. Initially, this service was scheduled to be available only until June 14, 2023.

For those interested in utilizing this complimentary service, here are the steps to follow:

Access the official website: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ using your Aadhaar number.

Opt for the 'proceed to update address' option.

A One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number.

Click on the 'Document Update' section, and your existing resident details will be displayed.

Carefully review the displayed information, and if accurate, proceed by clicking the next hyperlink.

On the subsequent screen, select the necessary Proof of Identity and Proof of Address documents from the provided dropdown list.

Upload scanned copies of the required address proof and then click the 'Submit' button to initiate the document update process.

Your Aadhaar update request will be duly accepted, and a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) will be generated.

Stay cautious and informed when dealing with Aadhaar updates to safeguard your personal information and ensure a smooth process.
