The Road Safety World Series 2022 event got off to the best possible start for India Legends as they defeated South Africa Legends by 61 runs in Kanpur. Rahul Sharma's three for seventeen and Stuart Binny's explosive 82 runs in 42 balls helped India start the campaign off perfectly. However, the moment that stuck out for the spectators at the stadium and those who watched on television was captain Sachin Tendulkar's mesmerising over-the-top stroke during his knock, which gave them a "1996 atmosphere."
India Legends chose to bat first after winning the toss, and Sachin joined Naman Ojha as the opening. After a subdued beginning to his innings, Sachin found some momentum when he lofted a length delivery from Makhaya Ntini over mid-on for a boundary in the fourth over. Later, he faced quick bowler Johan van der Wath and hit a boundary by going over the top to the long-off fence.Â

Before Ojha was dismissed in the delivery after the powerplay, South Africa made their initial inroads by getting rid of the skipper of the India Legends for 16 off 15 runs. After a 64-run partnership between Suresh Raina and Binny to stabilise the innings, Yusuf Pathan's 15-ball 35 nicely complemented Binny's efforts and enabled India to reach 217 for 4 in 20 overs.
In response, South Africa had a promising start with an opening stand of 43 runs before Rahul Sharma and Pragyan Ojha planned a top-order collapse by picking two wickets each for 90 runs in 12 overs. With an unbeaten 27-ball 38, South Africa's captain Jonty Rhodes fought alone for his team, but he did not have help from the other end, and they were eventually bowled out for 156 in 20 overs.
