Abhishek is now happily married to Aishwarya Rai and the duo sets some major couple goals but there was a time when Abhishek and Karisma dated each other.  The duo first met at the wedding of Big B’s daughter Shweta Bachchan. Abhishek Bachchan’s sister Shweta Bachchan is married to Nikhil, son of Karisma Kapoor’s aunt. While a new relationship was being added between Bachchan and Kapoor's families, the closeness between Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor also started increasing. Both dated each other for 5 years.

 

 In a video of 2002 event, Jaya Bachchan introduces Karisma Kapoor, her future daughter-in-law, to the public. The Bachchan matriarch may be heard stating, "I would, on behalf of my family – the Bachchan family, with the Nanda family, welcome another family into our group and that’s the Kapoors – Randhir and Babita Kapoor. And to be my daughter-in-law, Karisma Kapoor.”

 In the video Jaya further said, “That’s Abhishek’s gift to his parents on his father’s 60th birthday.” However, a year later, in 2003, as the country awaited Karisma and Abhishek's wedding news, the families shockingly announced that the pair had broken up.

At that time Karisma Kapoor was at the peak of her career and Abhishek Bachchan’s early films proved to be flops. Babita wanted a secure future for her daughter and she was not happy with Abhishek Bachchan’s career graph. He was afraid that daughter Karishma’s career might get sunk after marriage. Meanwhile, Jaya Bachchan did not want her future daughter-in-law to work. Media reports claimed that Jaya Bachchan did not approve that Karisma should work in films after marriage.
