Rajasthan is popular all over India for water scarcity. After the oil and gas in the sandy deserts, water has been found in the desert. In a search by geological researchers, a small amount of water has been found in Madpura Barwala in Barmer district of the state adjoining the Pak border, which has 4 thousand 800 litre water. This reservoir of water extends from Barmer to Jalore.

This water present in the ground is saline, it has more salinity. Researchers believe that this water can be made potable on the lines of Gulf Mulco. Geologists estimate that this water can quench the thirst of a population of 1 million for many years. Cairn Energy has been searching for oil and gas in the desert for a long time. During this discovery, a treasure of water has been received.

Rajasthan Revenue Minister Harish Chaudhary believes that the Union Water Power Ministry should work in this direction so that the needy can get water. According to geologist Anil Paliwal, based on petrochemical data, seismic survey and detailed hydrogeological investigation, Cairn Oil and Gas Company has discovered Thumbali water deposits in Barmer Basin. The spread of this water found in the Madpura Barwala areas near Baitu in Barmer district ranges from Baitu, Shiva, Barmer, Gudmalani to Sanchore and Kurd in Jalore district. Its depth ranges from 350 to 1500 meters above the ground surface.
