New Delhi: With the monsoon knocking off the Kerala coast, the heat wave continues to wreak havoc in most parts of the country. The temperature has crossed 45 degrees Celsius in the plains of North India, central India and many parts of South India. In some parts of Rajasthan, the temperature has also crossed 50 °c. In other parts of the country, people will get relief from the rising temperatures when the monsoon is reached.

According to information received from sources, the Indian Meteorological Department says that monsoon will reach other parts of the country through Kerala in about a week. The National Capital Region, Haryana and Punjab will get relief from the intense heat wave only after June 11 when it rains due to Western disturbance. In Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to get heavy rain as weather conditions in the North east are favourable for monsoon.

It may be noted that the heat wave in the north and central India has also affected the reservoirs of West and southern states. In these areas, the water level of major reservoirs of the country goes down considerably due to which the problem of flood is deepened in all the drought-affected areas including Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
