Kochi: The India Meteorological Department has issued orange alerts for four cities of Kerala- Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki. It is said that it will receive the highest rainfall today and on the 11th of August. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in the state on 7th August and 11th August. Rain is likely to occur at one or two places on 8th August and 10th August. The southwest monsoon has been extremely active in the state and most of the places are receiving heavy rainfall.
In the same 24 hours, Vaikaram in Kottayam district received more than 12 cm of rainfall. Alappuzha and Mavlikkara received 11-11 cm rainfall. Cherthala increased by 10 cm and parts of Ernakulam by more than eight cm. The wind speed in the South-East Arabian Sea is likely to reach 40-50 kmph. IMD said fishermen are advised not to go to sea during this period.
A yellow alert has been issued on 8th August for the cities of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kasargod. Senior meteorologist PK Saha of Bhopal Centre in IMD had predicted rain or thundershowers at most places in the cities of nine divisions of the state including Jabalpur and Bhopal. He said the weather forecast was valid till Saturday morning. Saha said there is a low-pressure area in the central part of the northern part of MP.
