Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a statement last Friday, "The people of West Bengal are saddened by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's two-term tenure and have decided to bid her farewell." Indeed, through his statement, Amit Shah has once again targeted Mamta Banerjee. He accused Mamata of promoting dynastic politics in West Bengal. Amit Shah said in his statement, "Mamta Banerjee spent her second term trying to make her nephew (Abhishek Banerjee) the next Chief Minister of West Bengal. The people of Bengal are so unhappy with these efforts that they have decided to bring a change.''

At the same time, he said, "from the very beginning, he believed that he was running away from Bhabanipur. It does not matter which seat she contests because she is losing everywhere. The people of Bengal have now woken up. Mamata will lose Nandigram more than 20,000 votes from BJP candidate Suvedu Adhikari (Mamata Banerjee's former aide).''

Mamata Banerjee is contesting from Nandigram this time instead of her home constituency, Bhabanipur. In a further statement, Amit Shah claimed that his party would win at least 50 seats out of the 60 seats where elections have been held in the first two phases. This time, the West Bengal assembly elections are happening in eight phases. Polling for the first phase was held on 27th March and for the second phase on 1st April. The final phase of polling is to be held on 29th April and counting of votes for all phases will be held on 2nd May.
