Kolkata: The situation in West Bengal is peaceful and there have been no reports of violence on Friday against the Revised Citizenship Act (CAA). On Friday afternoon, vigilance has been increased in many parts of the state in view of the religious gathering. Senior IPS officers of Kolkata Police will meet local community leaders in several police divisions of the city. There were violent protests in the state between December 13 and 17 against the Citizenship Act.
West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee will hold a meeting in the minority-dominated park circus area to protest against NRC and CAA. Several trains have been canceled in view of the rampant performance in the Eastern Railway zone in the state. However, train services from Kolkata to North Bengal and Assam have been partially restored. The state government on Thursday approved the resumption of internet service in Howrah, apart from Baruipur and Canning in South 24 Parganas district.
Giving information, officials have said that a decision will be taken later to fully restore internet service in Malda, Murshidabad, Uttar Dinajpur district and Basirhat, Barasat of North 24 Parganas. More than 600 people have been arrested for damaging public property and spreading rumors.
