Kolkata: Political violence continues in West Bengal with the announcement of assembly election results. Another BJP worker has reportedly been killed in the state. 36-year-old Samresh Pal, an active BJP functionary from Madhavnagar in the Kakdweep assembly constituency, was found dead on Monday (July 26, 2021).

The BJP has claimed that Pal was killed by the goons of the ruling Trinamool Congress Party. The BJP has tweeted that the incident proves that there is no law and order in the state. Accusing the ruling government of political cleansing of opposition workers, Leader of opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari said Pal had to sacrifice his life for believing in exercising democratic rights. He said TMC goons were behind the murder.

Using violence as a means to control its political opponents has become a feature of the TMC rule in West Bengal. Ever since the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC party has been in power in the state, harassment of dissidents and opposition activists has intensified.
