Kolkata: Police have arrested one more accused in the rape and murder of a minor in West Bengal's Hanskhali. On Monday, west Bengal police arrested another accused Prabhakar Poddar based on the statement of the accused Brojo Gowalla. The police are hopeful that after the arrest of Prabhakar Poddar, there may be some more secrets related to the case.
In this case, the police have already arrested the son of a senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in Hanskhali. It may be recalled that on April 4, a 14-year-old girl had gone to the birthday party of the son of the local TMC leader in Hanskhali, West Bengal. After cutting the cake, the girl was made to drink alcohol and then raped. After committing the rape of the girl, the accused left the victim at home. Late in the night, the victim suddenly developed a pain in her stomach and was admitted to a local hospital. The victim succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
After the girl's death, the police registered a case at the local police station and the police swung into action and arrested the TMC leader's son. According to the police, the father of the accused, Samarendra Gaeli, is a member of the TMC-controlled panchayat. At the same time, after this development, the political mercury of the state has gone up. While the West Bengal BJP today called for a 12-hour bandh on Tuesday to protest against the incident, advocate Anindya Sunder Das has filed a PIL in the Calcutta High Court seeking a CBI probe into the matter.
