MUMBAI: The "Yatri app," a live-tracking tool allowing Mumbaikars to track their local trains for everyday commuting, was introduced by the Western Railway's Mumbai Division on April 5.
Sumit Thakur, the Western Railway's chief public relations officer, claims that the smartphone application has a wide range of functions that make it easy for commuters to organise their trips. Thakur continued by saying that commuters would be able to view the train moving while also getting its real-time location on a map.
All of WR's EMU rakes have GPS tracking devices attached, allowing the app to see the local trains' current locations. Commuters will receive accurate information on train live announcements and updates, the most recent timetable, maps of the main railway stations, and amenities.
In addition to this, the app will also offer other details like neighbouring attractions, the Mumbai Metro, buses, etc.
Moreover, the Yatri app supports Divyangjan. Google Assistant makes it simple for Divyang commuters to ask their phone for the current location of their train. The command "Speak to Yatri Railways" must be spoken, followed by the train number. With the Yatri App, Google Assistant would retrieve the current location of the train and read it out to the users.
The Central Railways introduced live local train tracking in July of last year. The GPS-enabled technology was introduced for CR to allow for real-time train tracking using the Yatri smartphone app.
