A local court in Madurai once issued non-bailable warrants against actors Shilpa Shetty and Reema Sen in connection with publication of their "obscene" pictures in a Tamil eveninger. Issuing the NBWs, judicial magistrate (No 2) Elangovan also asked the Mumbai police commissioner to arrest the actors as early as possible and produce them before the court.

A Madurai based advocate Dakshninamorthy had filed a case against the two, and the editor of the eveninger for publishing the "obscene" pictures. Publication of such material was a violation of Section 109 of IPC (Indecent Representation of Women), Prevention of Publication of Obscene Pictures Act and Section 3 of the Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act, Dakshinamoorthy had contended in his petition. The actress was at that time accused of Violation of women representation for her photoshoot.
