When will the Kanwar Yatra start in 2024, know the date and time of performing Jalabhishek of Shivling here

In Hinduism, the month of Sawan holds great significance for devotees seeking to please Lord Shiva, often affectionately referred to as Bholenath. During this auspicious month, the Kanwar Yatra is organized, where devotees, known as Kanwariyas, carry water from the Ganges River in small pots (Kanwars) to offer it to Lord Shiva. This ritual is especially performed on the occasion of Sawan Shivratri, where the sacred water is used to perform the Abhishek of the Shiva Linga.

Devotees believe that undertaking this pilgrimage and performing these rituals bring special blessings from Lord Shiva. Every year, thousands, if not millions, of devotees embark on the Kanwar Yatra, travelling on foot to collect the holy Ganges water and offer it to Shiva temples in their local areas.

The Kanwar Yatra for the year 2024 is set to commence on July 22 and will conclude on August 2, coinciding with Sawan Shivratri. This pilgrimage is akin to a sacred journey that devotees eagerly anticipate throughout the year.

During the Kanwar Yatra, devotees travel to the banks of the Ganges River, fill their pots with its holy water, and secure these pots to their Kanwars, which are then carried on their shoulders. They journey back to their local Shiva temples to perform the ritual of pouring the Ganges water over the Shiva Linga. According to traditions, the practice of the Kanwar Yatra was first initiated by Lord Parshuram, who is believed to have brought Ganges water from Garhmukteshwar to perform the Abhishek of 'Pura Mahadev,' located near Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.

Participants in the Kanwar Yatra, known as Kanwariyas, adhere to specific rules and guidelines during their journey. Devotees are expected to walk the entire pilgrimage route. Throughout the journey, they consume only sattvic food, which is pure and vegetarian, and they take special care not to place their Kanwars on the ground while resting.

In conclusion, the Kanwar Yatra is a deeply revered pilgrimage in the Hindu religion, symbolizing devotion and the quest for divine blessings from Lord Shiva during the holy month of Sawan. This tradition not only reflects the spiritual dedication of the devotees but also their unwavering faith and commitment to their religious practices.
