The World Health Organization (WHO) has initiated talks with Russia with the aim of obtaining more information on the pandemic Coronavirus drug, which was approved by the country even before it began phase-3 testing last week. Russia is now planning a large-scale test of its "Sputnik V" vaccine which includes 40,000 people.

Financial advocates of the drug said that a foreign research body will oversee drug trials among 40,000 people starting next week. The WHO had previously raised security concerns over Russia's approach to vaccine development. The WHO / Europe said on Thursday that the agency had started a direct discussion with Russia and is seeking information from the country for which it is needed.

Catherine Smallwood, a senior emergency officer of WHO / Europe, told that "We are in no hurry to reach any result. We want to take our time to really understand what stage the vaccine is in and get complete information about the steps already taken". In a statement, WHO's Regional Director for Europe, Hans Cluj stated that "It is now important for countries to promote flu vaccination for at-risk groups as the upcoming influenza season is also growing rapidly".
